Uncorked: Rosemont Winery

"Good wine is a necessity of life for me." - Thomas Jefferson

Rosemont Winery is one of my favorite wineries in Virginia. G recently surprised me with a day trip to visit this lovely little spot in southern Virginia on Valentine's Day weekend. We fell in love with all of their wines, which is a very hard thing for us to do. Not only did we enjoy our experience, but the staff is phenomenal. I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Aubrey Rose, the Director of Sales and Marketing. She is nothing short of fantastic and so kind. Aubrey and her husband, Justin Rose are fellow Cavaliers! They started Rosemont almost ten years ago, and will be celebrating their estate's anniversary this Fall. Their motto is "budbreak to harvest". All of the wines are 100% estate grown.

This winery is a hidden gem in Virginia, and we cannot wait to return this Spring!

Today I'm sharing what wines we took home from Rosemont. It is rare G and I take home more than four bottles from a vineyard. This time around we took home seven bottles, and are absolutely thrilled with our picks!

White Wine

  • Pinot Grigio - This wine is such an amazing and unique pinot grigio. It is partially barrel oak fermented, and it smells of fuji apple and grapefruit. The wine is crisp and absolutely delicious!
  • Traminette - This traminette is fantastic, it has notes of grapefruit, lime, ginger and lemongrass. It will pair well with anything spicy and seafood!

Red Wine

  • Virginia Red - This is Rosemont's estate blend red wine. It is a medium bodied wine and so delicious! Also, it won Silver in the 2017 Virginia Governor's Cup.
  • Syrah - The syrah is a fruit forward and medium bodied red wine. It will pair well with red meats and chicken dishes!
  • Merlot - Do you remember when I said this would go amazing with brownies? Well this merlot is absolutely yummy and will pair with cheeses, filet mignon, chocolate, and anything Italian. It is so very delicious and one of our favorites! This won Best in Class & Gold at the Atlantic Seaboard Competition.
  • Cabernet Franc - This is popular varietal in Virginia. It is so smooth and has a caramel chocolate truffle finish! It won Gold at the Atlantic Seaboard Competition!
  • Kilravock - This is a Bordeaux style blend, and it's one of our favorites. It's well balances and has hints of vanilla, coffee, and black cherry. The wine is 40% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Franc, and 24% Petit Verdot - all of fave reds in a bottle! This beauty was rated 89 Points in Wine Enthusiast Magazine!

Enjoy!
