Uncorked: Stone Tower Winery

“Age is just a number. It's totally irrelevant unless, of course, you happen to be a bottle of wine.” - Joan Collins

Stone Tower Winery, has been a long time favorite of mine for a few years now. My best friend Alisha, and her husband James, introduced us to this lovely estate back in 2017. Since then. I have been dying to return back. G and I were not disappointed one bit during our most recent visit. If you live in Northern Virginia, this winery is the spot to enjoy, tucked away in Leesburg, VA. Not only is the estate absolutely stunning, they have amazing wines, and a brick oven to make fresh pizza!

We were able to enjoy a lovely tasting in the Member’s Tasting Room. Alisha and James are members at Stone Tower Winery, and our group was able to enjoy some of the wonderful perks that came with the estate.

During the tasting we tried eight wines, which were all amazing! We started out with a glass of bubbly to kick off the day. From there, our greeter, gave us a variety of wines to try. Everything was absolutely delicious, but of course G and I leaned more to their red wines. I decided to take home one bottle of bubbly and two red wines.

Below is what we decided to bring home from our wine tasting.

  • Wild Boar Blanc de Noirs France - The name for this wine means” white wine from red grapes”. This wine is about 80% Pinot Noir, which is my favorite grape for a champagne style wine. Also, this wine is a bit darker and has more grapes in it, than a typical rosé.

  • 2016 Wild Boar Cabernet Franc - Cab Franc is a favorite of G’s! This wine is 90% Cabernet France, and 10% Merlot. The Merlot really helps balance out the wine, and helps give the bottle a bit more body. Also, it was aged in French Oak for 18 months.

  • 2016 Estate Wind Swept Hill - Cabernet Franc is the leader in this red blend bottle with 48%, 44% Merlot, and 8% Cabernet Sauvignon. There are hits of licorice, berries, lilac, and cedar. The Merlot gives it a soft, velvety finish, really rounding out this bottle. This is by far one of my favorites from the winery!

What We Drank:

2016 Wild Boar Cabernet Franc

While we took in the views from estate, G and I decided to enjoy a glass or two of Cab Franc. This is one of our favorite reds, and it was perfect to sip on the patio, while feeling the cool breeze in the mountains. If you are looking for a red that you can enjoy with and without food - this is most certainly it!

Wild Boar Brut Rosé

This bottle of bubbly was perfect to share with friends! All of Stone Tower’s sparkling wines are fantastic. The Brut Rosé is the perfect wine for the warmer months ahead! Also, our group paired this bottle of sparkling with brick oven pizzas that we ordered at the winery. This is the perfect summer wine, it’s crisp, dry, and full of bubbles!

What We Ate:

Stone Tower recently opened a brick oven, and now serves a variety of pizzas! I absolutely love when wineries have fresh, hot food for their guests. It makes the visit and day, so enjoyable.

G and I ordered the Pepperoni and Garlic pizza, and it was very delicious. Also, all of their pizzas are all thin crust, which is my absolute fave!

Our afternoon at the winery was a blast, and I truly love all that Stone Tower has to offer their guests. G and I cannot wait to visit again in the near future.
