Cork & Fork: Classic Summer Pairings

"I cook with wine, sometimes I even add it to the food." - W. C. Fields

Now that the warmer months are here, I tend to eat a lot of grilled foods and delicious salads! Today, I am pairing my favorite grilled lemon pepper wings and avocado salad to two amazing white wines. Typically, I am a red wine drinker, but when I'm relaxing in my backyard and soaking up the sun - a crisp white wine is my ultimate fave.

Below are my favorite pairings, and I'm matching these two dishes with wines from Total Wine.

Grilled Lemon Pepper Wings

We love grilled food, and now that it's summer G loves cooking on our charcoal grill. I've made these wings many ways - fried, air-fried, baked, but grilled is the household favorite. These wings go perfectly with a bottle of Sancerre. This wine is reminiscent of a Sauvignon Blanc and is from the Loire Valley. It is refreshing and has crisp notes of citrus and minerals. Also, this wine is more dry than sweet, which is right up my alley.

Citrus Avocado Salad

This salad is absolutely light and refreshing. The avocado paired with tomato, cucumber, arugula, bacon, mixed with an olive oil and lemon vinaigrette is delicious. I've decided to pair this dish with a Vouvray. This bottle is similar to a Chenin Blanc and is a medium bodied wine. It has notes of melon and honey, with an array of smooth ripe fruits. Also, there is some acidity with lemon and apricot notes, which pair perfectly with this light summer salad.

Enjoy!
