On Tap: Back Bay's Farmhouse Brewing Co.

“I drink, and I know things.” - Tyrion Lannister

As you all know by now, I am more of a wine gal, but when one of good friends decided to organize a private beer tasting and tour at Back Bay’s Farmhouse Brewing Co., I decided to be a little adventurous and give it a try! Back Bay’s Farmhouse has been open for almost a year, and sits on an 1.5 acre farm. There is ample outdoor seating, with plenty of room for guests to bring the dogs as well! Also, some of the best local food trucks are out serving hungry customers too!

“I am drunk and you’re insane, who’s going to lead us home?” The coolest set of stairs ever, and so much fun to read as you walk up to the tasting room.

I’m so glad I took the leap to try this place out, not only is the property absolutely gorgeous, but our tour guide was so much fun, and full of knowledge. We were able to learn about the beers they make, while gaining knowledge on the history of Virginia Beach, which is historically known as Princess Anne County. Our group was able to tour the property, and see the beer making process firsthand. During each stop, we were able to try various Ciders, Malts and IPAs. Each day the brewery hand selects the tastings, and what’s neat about this little gem is you’ll always be in for a new treat. Our group also toured the farm, which was full of berries, red chard, hops, and more. We were even able to pick fresh strawberries as we walked through the farm, which definitely took me back to my childhood days strawberry picking in Pungo, VA.

One of the highlights from the day, was getting to try out not one, but two food trucks! Casual Eats and Redwood Smoke Shack were serving up delicious meals to the busy Saturday afternoon crowd. Also, the staff was so amazing, and Redwood even let G try out their brisket before putting in his order. Everything was super fresh, and it was the perfect compliment to the Brut Hard Cider I ordered at the farmhouse after our tour and tasting.

My Saturday afternoon was well spent at Back Bay’s Farmhouse Brewing Co., and I cannot wait to spend more time there in the near future. Do you like beer or cider? If so, share some recommendations!
