Workout Playlist

"Exercise is really important to me - it's therapeutic. So if I'm ever feeling tense or stressed or like I'm about to have a meltdown, I'll put on my iPod and head to the gym or out on a bike ride along Lake Michigan with the girls." - Michelle Obama

As, I have gotten older exercise is something that I've taken much more seriously. I try to workout at least 5 days a week with a routine that's perfect for me. My preferred regimen is indoor cycling, strength training, walking, barre, or yoga. I'm constantly modifying my routine so that I am doing a full body workout. Working out is the perfect stress release for me, and helps me start my day on a positive note.

Doing all of these activities, I absolutely need an amazing playlist to keep me motivated. So, today I'm sharing the songs that I love listening to while burning those calories!

Face First

"Nature gives you the face you have at twenty; it is up to you to merit the face you have at fifty." – Coco Chanel

One thing my Grandmother always taught me was to take care of my skin, especially my face. The proper skincare routine is essential, and today I'm sharing mine. I've experimented with a few products over the years, and luckily I've found the perfect regimen for my face.

  1. Having a healthy diet is key. I didn't realize it in my teenage years, but what I ate literally determine how healthy my skin was. Once I cut out dairy (well, kinda - cheese is one of my loves), and soda, my face magically cleared. Also, I stopped eating a lot of processed foods, switched up my diet to include more fresh ingredients - this was an absolute lifesaver for my skin.
  2. Drink plenty of water. Water is so important, and it's pretty much all that I drink - except for my wine! When I was college and living my best life at my favorite bars, my skin took a nose dive. Alcohol can totally ruin your skin, especially if it's not quality liquor. I have cut out soda and juices completely, and my skin is much better for it.
  3. Setup a routine that's best for your skin. Having a consistent skincare routine, helps train your face. I use certain products depending on the season, and time of day. I've found when I constantly switching products my face would freak out. Also, I don't wear makeup at all! I used to wear it quite a bit, and my face typically didn't respond well to it. Now, I may wear a full face of makeup once or twice a year, for a super special event. When I do wear makeup I hire the best makeup artist, Wil Strayhorn - he's top notch and uses the best products!

Cleanse

  • The items I use to clean my face is the FOREO LUNA, Noxema, and Philosophy face wash. I was a Clarisonic user for years, but when my MIA died on me, I switched over to the FOREO device, and haven't looked back since. I love the fact that it can go months without being charged, and no longer do I have to purchase replacement heads like the Clarisonic. Also, I use the device with my Purity face wash by Philosophy. I typically use the Philosophy cleanser during the warmer months, and use Noxema during the cooler season. The Noxema cleanser is nice and creamy, and provides extra nourishment to my face when the weather is much more harsh. It provides a deep clean as well, it's been my favorite since I was a teenager!

Moisturize

  • Moisturizing is super essential in ensuring your face gets the proper protection it needs. My esthetician recommend Rhonda Allison's Aloe Matte Moisturizer for my sensitive skin, and I absolutely love it. It's lightweight, smells amazing and super gentle. I use this item during the day, and Philosophy's Renewed Hope in a Jar in the evening. It is thicker, and creamy - perfect for my nighttime routine.

Repair

  • In high school and college I dealt with the typical acne that everyone is burdened with. As, I got older, I discovered some amazing items that cleared up those acne scars - thanks to my Mom! Palmer's has been a saving grace, especially their Coconut Oil formula, it helped eliminate my scarring, and has made my face super soft. BioOil has also helped with my blemishes, this formula is a bit more pricey but it really works! I use these serums at nighttime and not during the day, since these products are a bit more oily.

Beauty Sleep

"Sleep is the best meditation." - Dalai Lama

Who doesn't love to catch some zzzz's?! A good night's sleep is something I take very seriously. Personally, I try to aim for 8 to 9 hours of rest each evening. I'm a morning person, typically I wake up around 5:30 AM. Going to bed early works absolute best for me.

When G and I purchased our home, the master bedroom was one of the first rooms we designed together. We went to many stores to find the perfect pieces for our space. Yet, Wayfair is one of our favorite places to purchase home decor!

Having a peaceful and comfortable bedroom really helps me get my ultimate beauty sleep. Today, I'll be sharing how we made our bedroom cozy to get the best rest possible!

  1. Bedroom Set. Having a room that is comfortable was very important to G and I. We immediately went on the hunt for a style that embodied our personalities. After weeks of searching, we decided on a set that was lovely, and met our minimalist style. Fast forward a few years later, and we couldn't be happier with how our space looks!
  2. Faux Fur Throw. It was a complete surprise how much I would love this item! My faux fur throw is something I absolutely adore. This item goes with me in almost every room of our home. It is absolutely soft and cozy. It's perfect for those cold winter nights and helps me fall asleep fast!
  3. Sheets. Having the right thread count is important. I bought several different sheet sets to see what worked best for us. The softer the better! We love sheets that stay cool and soft throughout the night.
  4. Body Pillow. I had a spinal fusion over a decade ago. Having a body pillow is an absolute must! This pillow is lovely, and provides the proper support and balance for my spine. I recommend this item to anyone who needs that perfect alignment while sleeping.
  5. Candles. Aromatherapy is something I take very seriously. In our master bedroom, I have several candles to ease me into a good night's rest. The wonderful fragrance fills our room, and helps me relax before bedtime. They are absolutely helpful in easing me into a perfect slumber.
  6. Mattress. This is a biggie! G and I tried out several mattresses, and visited many stores to figure out the exact type we needed. We ensured our new mattress felt comfortable. It's essential to take the time in researching which mattress is best for your body type.
  7. Pillows. This is major as well. We change out our pillows every 6 months. Swapping out these items, and keeping them fresh is very important. This process will ensure that your pillows will not flatten over time or harbor any unwanted bacteria.
  8. Lighting. Having the proper lighting in your bedroom really helps! In the evening before bed, I'll read or catch up on a few items for the blog. Whether you choose overhead lighting, or a nice lamp on your nightstand, pick the option that works best for your nighttime routine.
  9. Duvet Cover Set. I absolutely adore our duvet cover set! I love adding several layers of blankets within our bedding. Our duvet set is ideal and much needed.

What ways do you make your bedroom cozy and optimal for the perfect sleep?
